The idea behind this sculpture, 'When, Not If" revolves around the fragility and randomness of life. As you walk by the black coffin, you see your reflection engulfed in clouds. The hope is that when you see yourself in [this] coffin, you think about appreciating life because it can be gone in an instant.
The coffin is made with wood, black paint, glue, vinyl, adhesive mirrors, and nails.
I originally planned to install this in the parking garage on the UML campus but COVID had just shut down our campus. I selected the garage because it has high foot traffic and would be seen on the way to and from class. I resumed the project from home using tools in my garage but was never able to install on campus.
